Wakefield and Potomac Falls met for the 3rd time in three years in the playoffs, with Wakefield winning the first two meetings fairly easy. Not on on this night. Potomac Falls took the host team into three overtimes before falling 76-72. Wakefield will advance to the Regional Championship game tomorrow night vs the winner of Edison and Stone Bridge.
With the Warriors (21-6) up 3 points with 12 seconds to go in regularlation, Wakefield fouled a Potomac Falls player in the act of shooting a 3-pointer. He made all 3 free throws to put the game into its first overtime. The overtime periods went back and forth. In the 3rd overtime with about a minute to play, A’Mari Cooper slashed down the lane for a thunderous two hand dunk that gave the Warriors the lead for good. Cooper was fouled on the next possession and had to go to the line to make two free throws. He sanked both to give the Warriors a 4 point lead, and the victory.
A’Mari Cooper finished the game with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Ben Horsford had a team high 19 points (5-10 from 3). Chris Warner chipped in 14 points.
