The Wakefield Warriors won their 3rd Regional Championship under Coach Bentley (2005, 2014, 2018) in dramatic fashion by defeating Edison 64-62 on a buzzer beater. Wakefield defeated Edison for the 4th time this season.
With the clock running down and the score tied at 62-62, Wakefield put the ball in A’Mari Cooper’s hands and let him make a play. And make a play he did. He drove down the lane, spun to his right and put up the game winning layup (almost the same way last years senior guard Alan Treakle, now playing at Mt. Olive University, won the Conference Championship last year 42-40 over Marshall).
A’Mari Cooper finished the game with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Ben Horsford had 11 points and 5 rebounds. Chris Warner had 14 points. Rob Starkey had 10 points.
The Warriors now move onto the State Tournament (7th time since 2005) next Saturday, March 3rd. They will face the loser of Harrisonburg and Albermarle at 4 pm at Robinson High School.
