There’s nothing more a track coach wants for their athletes than to have them achieve a personal best in their signature event in their last meet of the year as a senior. Now this may not always happen, but for Cierra & Xavier that’s exactly how they ended their impressive high school track & field careers at states this past weekend in Newport News.
On Saturday Xavier stepped onto the track to compete in 3 separate events. He first anchored the 4x100m relay to 13th place finish and seasonal best time, coming close to our school record despite being forced out of his lane. Secondly, he set a personal best of 48.18 in his strongest event, the 400m dash, to place 2nd and earn all-State honors. He then closed out his state meet with a 6th place finish in the 200m dash which also earned him all-state honors.
Xavier leaves Wakefield:
As the Indoor School Record holder in the 200m & 300m dash
Indoor Track All-State in the 300m dash
Indoor National Qualifier in the 200m dash
Outdoor District Champion in 100, 200 & 400
Outdoor Regional Champion in the 100, 200, 400
Outdoor Track All-State in the 200 6th
Outdoor Track State runner up in the 400m dash
Outdoor National Qualifier in the 400m dash
His personal bests are:
55 – 6:63
200 – 22.14
300 – 34.88
500 – 1:07.25
100m – 10.83
200m – 21.76
400m – 48.18
LJ – 21’ .5”
When I think about Xavier I think about all the medals he’s accrued over his illustrious HS career. I’m sure he could tell you exactly how many medals he’s won, but all I know is that I’ve never seen so many! Xavier is still deciding the route he will take next year to further his education (as he is sought after by many colleges) or enlist in the Army. Either way I hope he has the opportunity to hone is incredible talent.
