Warriors News · Ms. Kigin Says “Get Those Physicals Turned In” – Winter Sports/Spring Sports Conditioning

Dear Parents/Athletes,

As many of you may not be aware (because your children have neglected to give you any advance warning!!), winter sports tryouts begin November 6.

Winter sports include boys and girls basketball, rifle team, swim/dive, indoor track, wrestling, cheerleading, dance team, and gymnastics. Additionally, many spring sports require physicals turned in for winter conditioning.

In order to try out or participate, students must have submitted a 2017 VHSL physical packet, with physical performed by a doctor after May 1 2017, to Ms. Kigin. Additionally, students must have insurance coverage.

The physical packet is available online at this location: http://wakefield.apsva.us/wp-content/uploads/sites/37/2015/06/2017-2018-Revised-VHSL-Physical-Packet.pdf

Please take the above packet with you to the doctor: many doctor offices have older forms which are not valid for participation.  You may have to go back to the doctor to get the correct forms filled out.

Ms. Kigin is available in Town Hall this Thursday and Friday during all lunches, as well as after school in the Athletic Training Room, to collect physicals and clear students for tryouts.

The first day of practice, on Monday 11/6 after school, there will be a very long line of students who have waited til the last minute (or had difficulty getting an appointment). If parents scan and send the packet over email, the students will still need to stand in line in order to fill out the requisite Wakefield clearance paperwork.

Physical packets that are incomplete or signed in pencil will not be accepted. Missing parent signatures require a real signature: clearing kids over the phone or telling them to sign their parent’s name is not legal nor acceptable.

Students that turned in physicals this school year will still need to get cleared for the sport they are trying out for: it involves filling out a form so that grades and eligibility can be verified.

Students that participated in fall sports will also need to get their physicals transferred over to their new winter sport.

If you would like to purchase school insurance, or supplement your private insurance, you can purchase insurance at this link: http://wakefield.apsva.us/wp-content/uploads/sites/37/2016/07/English.pdf
