Wakefield High School
Wakefield Freshman Volleyball team showed tremendous resilience in their 2-0 victory last night against Edison High School. The first set was a point-for-point fight where the Warriors committed an unusually high number of errors. Strong service from Thi Ley and Anna Wood made a tremendous difference in keeping the Warriors in the competition. Rosemary Hill has one kill. Megan Mazel had a few good passes and tips over the net. Anna Wood’s persistent attacking and her season high number of attacks put the Warriors over the top. As a result of team hustle, the Freshman team pulled out a 25-23 victory.
In the second set, the Warriors got off to a rough start because serves weren’t going in and reception was off beat. Edison was determined to dominate but the Warriors invoked their mental reserves and fought back from a 14-4 deficient to win 25-17. Strong service came from Thi Ley, Ashley Flores and Layla Kherbouch while attacks were delivered by Nevaeh Wallace, Quincy Jackson and Ashley Flores. Thi Ley had a reliable performance and set both back sets and a quick sets during play demonstrating team versatility.
This victory brings us to 9-3 overall and 9-2 in conference play. Tonight is the final game of the season and Senior Night.
