Wakefield High School
With our victory on our home court last night, the Wakefield freshman volleyball team moves to a 7-2 Division record and 7-3 overall. A slow start characterized our first set. Team service was weaker than typical with fewer than half our serves crossing the net inbounds and we had 3 aces: one from Ashley Flores, Anna Wood and Layla Kherbouch each. While we attacked 9 times, more than half hit the net or fell out of bounds and we had no kills. Nonetheless strong attacking from Quincy Jackson and Natalie Manlove. Keeping our errors low and team hustle that resulted in 3 saves contributed to a respectable 25-20 loss of the first set.
Our second set, 25-7, victory was a result of much better service and more accurate attacks. Ashley Flores led the way with 6 consecutive aces followed by four serves and an ace by Megan Mazel and three consecutive serves by Rosemary Hill. Strong attacks were delivered by Nevaeh Wallace including 2 kills, Megan Mezel with 2 attacks and Layla Kherbouch with 1 kill. Thi Ley setting was strong as usual and she tipped 1 over for a point.
In a high pressure third set, the Warriors pulled out a victory 15-7 by serving well, attacking and hustling. Thi Ley served 3 in including 1 ace while Nevaeh Wallace had 5 consecutive serves including 1 ace. The Warriors attacks were more accurate landing 7 across the net including 1 kill by Nevaeh Wallace. Holding to few errors and saving 2 balls by hustling helped secure the victory of the set and match.
Our next match is Tuesday, the 10th at 5:00 at Falls Church. Come on out and support the Freshman Volleyball Team to victory!
