Wakefield High School
In what was unquestionably their best performance of the season, the Warriors lost 2-1 to Marshall High School. In a very exciting match with nearly point for point rallies, Wakefield lost the first set, 25-21; won the second set 25-23; and lost the nail biter third set 16-14. Unforced errors including atypical service errors contributed to the loss. Nonetheless, in the first set Quincy Jackson logged the best service performance with 7 serves; Nevaeh Wallace executed 7 attacks and 1 kill among them; Thi Ley assisted with her pinpoint sets and exceptional net play; and together, Ashley Flores and Navaeh Wallace had 5 successful blocks.
In the second set, the Warriors relied heavily on Thi Ley to repeatedly put targeted sets in the right place for Wakefield to have a season high 15 attacks in one set: Nevaeh Wallace with 7 attacks and 1 kill; Quincy Jackson and Ashley Flores each with 3 attacks; and Kate Lanman with 2. The team blocked 6 times. Layla Kherbouch and Kate Lanman’s digs and overall defense were exceptional and contributed significantly to our second set win.
Point for point competition depicted a very intense, rapidly moving third set. Thi Ley, Ashley Flores and Quincy Jackson each put 2 serves in play while Natalie Manlove and Anna Wood each contributed key serves. In addition to her outstanding setting, Thi Ley executed a strong attack. Navaeh Wallace and Kate Lanman and Ashley Flores each relentlessly attacked. Team hustle was the best of the season and the bench’s vocal spirit combined with the enthusiastic support of Wakefield fans made a positive difference in our performance.
