Wakefield High School
Wakefield got off to a strong start by winning the first set against the Washington-Lee Generals on our home court 25 to 17. Thi Ley and Ashley Flores put the Warriors on strong footing with 19 solid serves including half a dozen aces between them. Noteworthy back court play was filed by Kate Lanman and Captain Layla Kherbouch.
The Generals roared back in the second set and despite an early lead and several good rallies with a few effective blocks and attacks, the Warriors dropped the set 25-15. Kate Lanman put five consecutive serves across the net for the Warriors in the effort, a personal best for her.
The Warriors were ineffective in the third set losing 15-5. The Generals scored 10 straight points and fought hard to maintain their lead. Ultimately, the Warriors had a respectable show in their opening regular season match and will have an opportunity to show their potential in the next match on Thursday against Stuart at Stuart beginning at 5:00pm.
