Wakefield Freshman Volleyball Team Makes a Respectable Show!

Wakefield Freshman Volleyball team won 5 of 8 sets to place 3rd in the preseason Volleybrawl Tournament hosted by Washington-Lee High School. Wakefield encountered the host in the first match and split 25-9, 0-25 with the Generals. Wakefield earned 14 points from unreturned serves and executed 3 of 6 attack attempts in the first set but came up short in the second set.

Wakefield faced TJ next and handily won both sets 25-10 and 25-10. In the first set 9 points resulted from unreturned serves and Wakefield executed 7 of 9 attack attempts. We bettered our performance in the second set with 11 points from unreturned serves and killing 8 of 11 attack attempts.

Yorktown proved a formidable opponent as Wakefield fell in both sets against the Patriots. We played particularly well – the best of the day – in the first set yet lost 21-25. We were successful in 3 of 6 attacks and earned 9 points off serves that could not be returned. In the second set, serves hurt the Warriors as only 2 serves were unreturned for points but we executed on 5 of 8 attack attempts.

In the last match of the day, Wakefield played TJ for place. Showing substantial improvement from earlier in the day, the Warriors earned 8 points from serves and succeeded in 10 of 12 attacks in the first set and equaled the attacks in the second set. Warriors defeated TJ 25-22 and 25-20 for third place in the Volleybrawl Tournament.

Next match is against Washington-Lee at Wakefield at 5:00 on Monday, August 28th.
