Meet Recap

Today was the first day of the Conference Tournament. The #1 and #2 singles players from each team in the conference participate in the singles portion of the tournament. Players are entered into the tournament bracket based on their overall record for the season.

Wakefield’s #1 singles player, Grace Kalfatovic, drew a tough match-up vs. Marshall’s #2 player in the first round. Grace did an excellent job by putting forth her best effort and making Marshall earn each point of the match. Her competitiveness allowed her to play several long rallies throughout the match. Grace made an exceptional play that would have been sure to make any tennis highlight film as she hustled all the way to the court next to her to hit a ferocious cross court shot. Marshall took the win 10-0 to end the tournament for Grace.

Wakefield’s #2 singles player, Catherine Chen, was matched up with Lee High School’s #1 player in the first round. Unfortunately, Catherine was unable to play due to an ankle injury in last week’s match vs. Falls Church High School. Catherine forfeited her singles match which led to Lee’s player advancing to round 2 to take on Marshall High School’s #1 singles player.
