Meet Recap

Wakefield traveled to Falls Church HS today to face the Lady Jaguars. With the threat of rain, the matches were played as 8 game pro-sets instead of the usual 10 game pro-set.

With 2 of the top 6 players out today, Ruth M. and Ela G. stepped into the line-up from the JV squad.

#1: Grace K. was forced to call on her mental toughness as many of her shots weren’t going her way early in the match. She hustled and battled and turned her match around to lead her to victory. (8-5)
#2: Catherine C. placed the ball extremely well throughout the match, forcing her opponent to hustle for every ball. Unfortunately, she “just barely missed” enough shots to eventually lose 5-8 despite her great effort.
#3: Amanda B. consistently placed the ball in the court and focused on improving her groundstroke precision in her 8-3 victory.
#4 Diana M. moved up from #5 to #4 in today’s line-up. She hustled for ball after ball and demonstrated her accuracy and consistency throughout her match. Short balls were no match for Diana, as she quickly moved to the ball and finished several points from the net in her 8-4 victory.
#5 Ruth M. moved into the line-up at #5 today. She moved her feet and created several winning points despite her eventual 2-8 loss. Ruth continues to improve with every practice and match and will, no doubt, be headed for future success if she keeps up her terrific effort.
#6: Ela G. moved into the line-up at #6 today. She fought hard and played out some great points despite her 3-8 loss. Ela is showing great potential and will be an interesting player to watch in the future.

Doubles: The Warriors entered the doubles portion of the match tied 3-3 with the Jaguars of Falls Church. The match came down to the final doubles match with an end result of 4-5 in favor of the Jaguars.
#1: Grace K. & Amanda B. had a less consistent than usual doubles match today. The pair stayed positive and put forth their best effort despite today’s loss. (1-8)
#2: Catherine C. & Diana M. demonstrated excellent strategy and shot placement throughout their match. The duo was consistent and confident from start to finish and earned a well-deserved win. (8-1)
#3: Ruth M. and Ela G. bravely stepped onto court 3 for doubles. Ruth demonstrated her knowledge of positioning while covering the back court while Ela played the net. Ela created a powerful point opportunity late in the match, but it wasn’t enough to turn things around. The partners never gave up despite their 0-8 loss.
