Wakefield High School
The Washington-Lee Generals defeated the Wakefield Warriors, 6-2, in girls high school softball action March 14.
Wakefield allowed four unearned runs in the first two innings as a result of three errors. Washington-Leeâs Lyli Bonilla scored two of the runs and Sara Brown had two RBI.
Wakefield rallied with a couple runs in the third inning when Rashawn Parent hit an inside-the-park home run as her head first slide to home just beat out an errant throw to the catcher. Marisa DeFranco scored on the play to cut the W-L lead to 4-2.
Brown and Leah Delancey scored for W-L in the fifth.
Wakefield had runners in scoring position in four innings, but W-Lâs defense was solid throughout the game.
Liana Ashby got the win for Washington-Lee on the mound and had 5 strikeouts.
DeFranco, the only senior on Wakefieldâs team, had 11 strikeouts for the Warriors.
Each team has a new head coach, Courtney Shewak for W-L and Jonny Kelly for Wakefield.
